5.6 Expectation to transport time reduction in future

5.6.1 Transport time reduction at the present stage

In the study of this time, a preliminary analysis was conducted, on the transport time reduction of day time limited express trains on the Northern line, by using a practical technology obtained at the early stage.

Broader studies will be made hereafter concerning the principles of overall railway transport services in the future. It is expected that in such studies, further detailed planning and analysis on the daytime express in Northern line will be carried out, contributing to the clarification of roads of railway transport.

Further more, studies will also be made for other types of trains and other lines, in order to realize time reduction and other improvements of transport. It is then desired that effective and highly efficient transport services will be found out in this practical stage.

5.6.2 Transport time reduction in future stage

When we take a look to future railway services, if an appropriate investment is made in the existing narrow-gauge railways, how much time reduction can we expect?

Along with the discussion of possible construction of new standard-gauge lines, the existing narrow-gauge lines also recommended to be discussed for effective operation enabling the comparison of the both types of lines.

In case of the Northern Line, considerable time reduction in transport can be expected due to a short cut by constructing new lines on a part of steeply curved section of the northern mount air area, and to high speed running on flat land area introducing the technology of 200 km/h running which has been recently well advanced also for narrow-gauge line.
